Objectives

The aim of the outreach and engagement department is to drive and support the advancement of AI applications through knowledge creation, patents, and transfer before leading to market adoption.

  1. Enable the development and transfer of AI-based technological innovation capabilities to support UAE’s rapid technological growth

  2. Deployment and integration of novel AI-based technologies in industry

  3. Develop real business applications in collaboration with industry, and public institutions to enhance innovation, productivity, and growth

  4. Create the foundations for MBZUAI to become a top global AI research university through highly visible joint research programs in AI-related domains with external partners

  5. Facilitating faculty participation in joint research, exchange of faculty and students with world-known universities

  6. Setting up secure and sustainable funding resources with externally funded research activities

  7. Engaging with governmental and industrial entities to develop joint AI-based research initiatives

These objectives will be met by maintaining a culture of research and development excellence through publication of scientific papers in top-tier journals, generation of new commercially viable intellectual property (IP), and attraction of industry research funding. This effort will be enabled by the outreach and engagement division that is supported by a dedicated team responsible for research capacity building, research infrastructure, external partnerships, and technology transfer and commercialization.

Director's message

The overarching mission of outreach and engagement division is to support MBZUAI’s aim to become globally recognized university that produces knowledge and technologies across the artificial intelligence spectrum. This is in line with Abu Dhabi’s Vision 2030, and the UAE’s new National Innovation Strategy for the growth of distinctive skills and capabilities across the nation.

We aim to increase the university's local, national, and international impact by engaging audiences - both public and private - in discussions about AI’s transformative impact across key sectors and facilitate collaborations to research and develop products.

The Office of Outreach and Engagement will strive towards excellence in key activities including research development, partnerships and collaboration, technology transfer, and community engagement.

Our community engagement activities aim to strengthen the relationship between the main core business of the university, the public sector, and industrial institutions by developing partnerships in managing artificial intelligence applications in different fields of research projects, consultative projects, and capacity development.
